Allerton has a long history in fabrication and has been a family run business since 2009.
Our team of skilled professionals is at the heart of everything we do. Their health,
safety, and wellbeing are our top priority.
We invest heavily in training and development through our in-house training school and annual apprenticeship programmes – helping the next generation build a career in steel fabrication. We are proud to be specialists in thick plate fabrication and welding.
We believe the best results come from working together. By collaborating closely with our clients, we deliver practical, cost-effective, and safe solutions. From the initial review through to delivery, we focus on adding value with smart engineering, risk management, and a proactive, partnership-driven approach.
At Allerton Steel, we are committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
We are proud to be certified to ISO 45001, and through effective risk management, employee engagement, and continual improvement, we aim to prevent work-related injury and ill health and promote a positive safety culture across all our operations.
By prioritising safety, we protect not only our workforce but also the integrity of our operations—giving our clients confidence in our ability to meet their expectations, every time.
The skills and experience of our workforce enable the successful delivery of complex fabrication assemblies across a wide range of sectors.
By utilising advanced 3D modelling and surveying systems, we are able to manufacture intricate structures with high accuracy and repeatability, ensuring compliance with exacting tolerances.
This integrated approach provides confidence in delivering precision-engineered solutions across all our market sectors, and provides an alternative to traditional trial-assembly of fabricated parts.
The company undertakes heavy fabrication projects ranging from structural girders and crane structures to components for hydro, nuclear, industrial plant, offshore, and specialist applications.
We specialise in the fabrication and welding of carbon steels. Typical grades include:
S275-S355-S460-S690
S355J2W (Weathering/Corten)
The facility has a production capacity of approximately 10,000 tonnes per annum.
The workshop can accommodate fabricated sections up to 40 metres in length, enabling the manufacture of large-scale structural components.
The facility is equipped with a fleet of Electric Overhead Travelling (EOT) cranes with a maximum combined capacity of up to 60 tonnes within the fabrication shop, 20 tonnes externally. Engineered lifts in excess of these limits have also been carried out using specialised lifting equipment.
Additional material handling capability is provided by forklifts and side loaders, enhancing operational flexibility, particularly for handling materials and components outside the main factory building.
The facility is equipped with 2 No. Voortman CNC-controlled profiling machines, each fitted with 5 to 10 self-setting cutting heads, capable of processing plate thicknesses of up to 300 mm with a bed length of 25 metres.
Two of the profilers operate as plasma cutting systems:
One machine is fitted with a 3D robotic bevel cutting head, enabling the production of weld preparations during cutting for plate thicknesses up to 40 mm.
The second plasma profiler provides square cutting capability up to 50 mm thickness.
An oxy-fuel gas profiler is also utilised, primarily for high-efficiency strip cutting, allowing multiple plates to be processed in a single pass.
All profiling machines are supported by advanced nesting and programming software, including:
AlphaCam nesting system
Lantek Expert software with DSTV file import capability
This combination ensures efficient material utilisation, accuracy, and seamless integration with design data.
The facility includes a dedicated 40m × 5m assembly area equipped with an ESAB CAB 600C column and boom welding system, designed for the welding of large structural components.
The system utilises the submerged arc welding (SAW) process. It accommodates single or tandem wire configurations, enabling high deposition rates and efficient weld completion.
The weld inspection team is led by our in-house Responsible Welding Co-ordinator who is qualified as an International Welding Technologist and with an MSc in Welding Engineering from Cranfield University. He supports a team of inspectors qualified by CSWIP up to level 3.2.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is performed by a third party contractor from Libellum Inspection.
When a tape measure is insufficient, the dimensional inspectors have access to the latest measuring technology from Leica and Trimble. The former pairs with powerful Polyworks software.
We have the ability to read CAD drawings which in-turn process DSTV data files for all our CNC operated machinery. We also have in-house state of the art TEKLA STRUCTURES drawing facility which in-turn produces 3D modelling fabrication and surveying information.
Allerton Steel specialises in large-scale, high-accuracy machining for heavy engineering and complex fabrication projects. Our facility is equipped with the following range of machines:
Travelling column milling machines
Lathes
The Correa machines are equipped with UAD (Universal Automatic Differential) heads, providing high-precision bi-directional indexing with angular positioning accuracy down to 0.02°. These heads enable complex multi-face and angular machining, reduce setup times, and ensure excellent rigidity, repeatability, and surface finish across a wide range of materials.
Advanced metrology capability allows us to maintain precise alignment throughout the machining process and enables us to machine components that exceed the standard working envelope of our machines.
With a strong focus on precision, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, we work closely with our clients to ensure every project meets exact specifications—regardless of size or complexity.
